13- Rare carved ceremonial paddle-spear from the Pacific Islands (came from a collection of ethnographic weapons from an old family house and the ancestor was believed to be on one of the ships accompanying Captain Cook on his voyage (possibly been on the Endevour- however no written provenance of this). Finely carved on both sides of the spear head with encised checkered designs and a central geometric design panel to both sides. One side of the lower part of the spear is carved with a zig-zag lightening type carving. The end of the spear is nicely carved in the shape of an archway/house (one slither of wood missing on one side). Spear in good condition, slightly rounded at the tip. Good age patina. Spearhead at widest point is just over 3 inches / 9.7 cm. Overall length of item is 37 inches / 96 cm.
