1- Rare Sudanese Mahdi (from the battle of Omdurman where the English fought 1884-1898). The blade is covered in Islamic writing (probably verses from the Quran). The blade measures just under 24 inches / 61 cm. Bronze looking medieval style cross handguard with long langets to either side. The handle is presumably made of wood but is covered in monitorlizard skin. The leather scabbard is also completely covered in monitor lizard skin which includes a leg and foot of a monitor lizard (complete with claws) to the front of the scabbard. The hanging strap looks to be made from an old martini henry sling with a piece of wood used like a toggle which is wrapped with green string. The tip of the scabbard has a silvertip with some engraving. Overall length in scabbard is 29 inches/ 73 cm. SOLD
