 18th century / early 19th century practice calvalry sword, possibly English or German (no makersmarks to be found). Blackened iron D-shaped guard with flared and domed central hand protector near the bottom of the blade which curves towards the blade. (see pictures). Wooden grip which is bound with string to make a ribbed effect with stretched and shrunk leather on top. This is blackened and has worn revealing the string in places (expected with age of item). A slender curved (thick proportions) practice blade of 34 inches / 87 cm. Overall length is 40 inches / 103 cm.
