19th century socket bayonet with a hollowground tri-sectional blade that tapers and bends down to the tip. Downwards turn-type towards the tip. Various arsenal marks stamped on the ricasso and the nr 360. The side of the stem is also stamped between the socket and the blade with a 5 point star and a crown over the letters GH. The socket has been mounted onto a beautifully turned hardwood handle which has nice age patina and woodgrain. These bayonets can be used for hand to hand combat (for naval boarding). Blade length is 17 inches / 44 cm. The mouth of the socket is approx. 2 cm. The overall length of the bayonet including the handle is 26 inches / 66 cm. Dark age patina overall and in good condition. Only some slight peppering in the middle and towards the tip of the blade
